You have right to only do the work, you have no right on the results, don’t be the reason behind results, don’t abstain from work.
Shreemadbhagwat says you have right to only perform, you should not look at the outputs, dont try to perform with motive of self satisfaction behind it, nor should you try to abstain from work, thinking it will save you from being obsessed with positive output of your works.
You should work, without the motive of personal gain, you should work for human kind and be nonchalant to the output. completely oblivious about their positive or negative results.
Dear Trisha,
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen this blog before and thought that you were speaking of Suryagni when you mentioned your social purpose blog. You should update this more often. Because of your spiritual orientation, I believe that locating gems from Upanishads and talking about them would be nice.
Now about the point you were discussing, I had an example of selfless service in my life, that of my father. He was convinced that it was the only way to go about life, in his later years and followed it to perfection. I used to make fun of it because of its total incomprehensibility to me at that time. Even now I can't grasp it in its essence. May be it will come slowly to me.
Are you speaking of the lovely "Devi Bhagavata", here or the more famous one of Lord Krishna? I love the Devi and has been so as long as I remember.
dear sam,
ReplyDeleteits shreemadbhagvat geeta, i dont read much of spiritual things because its hard to find authentic writers or translators.. someone gifted me shreemadbhagvat's bengali translation and i started to read it recently, i am truly enjoying it.. its showing me some beautiful ways of improving my soul.
you know, its not very easy to understand a truly nonchalant soul.. you will realize it with age or you may never but you will learn to respect them with age.
Very true dear Trisha, I just can't tell you how I grieve over him now that he is no more. Its a pain I have to bear all my life.
ReplyDeleteI do not read the Bhagavat geeta much. Though I am a great fan of the Upanishads and Brahma Sutras. The Bagavat geeta tries to condense all spiritual wisdom into one place. It a great book, but has been rendered useless by thousands of translations on it. I am happy that you have a very good translation of it with you now. I love you for the effort that you are taking in this blog because of my request. I am really proud to have you as a friend, and these are heartfelt words.
Thank you my dear Trisha
Please read Devi Bhagavata. It is so wonderful. Also you would get a number of wonderful stories to write poems too.
ReplyDeletedear sam,
ReplyDeletei was lucky that i did my part of duty toward both my parents perfectly.. its really sad to regret when they are gone.
did not had any chance to do any thing for father he passed away when i was 14, and i lived away from him for his three last years, so, kept that regret in mind forever while dealing with my mom (who was a daughter to me not mother).
dear sam,
ReplyDeleteis devi bhagavata available in net? as you know i will have to travel all across kolkata to get to a decent bookstore.. so i will rather not go.
my poems are rarely based on stories i read.. as for concepts well.. i already have my mind brimming with them.
Then read it to lean HER tale, who is the only mover of the universe
