Shreemadbhawat says: The person who is equally calm in happiness & sorrow, who is not moved by these feelings becomes immortal.
Human life is not to enjoy petty happiness and sorrow, but to rise above these and surrender oneself to the endless joy and happiness derived from surrendering to God.
The person who becomes nonchalant to happiness and sorrow by surrendering to God reaches immortality.
His heart is stable in God, hence he does not feels ecstassy, arrogancy or addiction when every thing is happening in his favour.
He doesnot feels pain, anguish or frustration when everything is going against him.
He knows the only thing stable in this world is his soul and its connection to God, every thing else will come and go, and will be left behind.

It is the definition of "Sthithaprajna" isn't it? Very tough to attain.
ReplyDeletei also think so.. but we can try working for it, actually shreemadbhagwat guides one to this path.. if you get a chance to read it, do it.. i will be sharing the knowledge from there in this blog.
ReplyDeletemy blog of my "social" being is agnitrisha.blogspot.com/ suryakana.blogspot.com
i humbly repeat i am an internet addict :) i spend most of my time blogging.
I have read the Geeta several times, dear Trisha, my mother used to read one chapter every day for years in our hearing. Also I have read many translations on it, including that of Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Nice book in two giant volumes translated to English from Marathi, pretty well explains the whole Indian systems of thought.
ReplyDeleteI also have a recording of Geeta in the wonderful voice of Sri K.J. Yesudas. You would not forget those lines once heard them in his voice. I think , a condensed form of it is still available in the market if you want to buy one.
I have long been interested in Vedanta and have read the works of Sankaracharya on it including his commentary on the Geeta. The only thing is, once you have read the Upanishads all other treatises on spirituality pales into insignificance. They contain the essence of truth. Even they are not necessary once you go beyond that.
Because the Upanishads speaks about a state of consciousness:
"Na thathra vagatchati
Na mano gatchati"
(Where the words don't reach
Where even the mind can not reach.)
So how can word or mental formations be of use to those who seek truth?
:)
this is why i was asking you to write again about spiritualism.. so i could read.. :(
ReplyDeletewhat is the name of the CD by yesudas? I love his hindi movie songs..
You are lucky to have such a mother, my mom was a graduate in sanskrit but.. she never read any thing like that to us :)
Don’t be sad, dear Trisha. I am taking my first steps in blogging. I might do it by and by.
